Progress in Parliament: VCMA gains Home Office momentum

Momentum behind the Vehicle Compliance Management Act (VCMA) continues to build, despite a setback in December when an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill was not secured., Momentum has not slowed, thanks to the ongoing commitment of Lord Lucas.

On 26 January, Lord Lucas and NPED CEO Alan Wood met Lord Hanson and senior Home Office officials in the House of Lords to discuss the growing national challenge of vehicle non‑compliance and the proposed VCMA pilot. The discussion was described as “forward‑looking and collaborative,” with clear alignment on strengthening compliance and supporting enforcement bodies across the UK.

A follow‑up meeting at the Home Office took place on 19 February to explore the pilot in more detail — including operational design, data flows, and mechanisms to help enforcement agencies tackle persistent non‑compliance.

The VCMA remains a “cost‑neutral, community‑focused solution to persistent vehicle non‑compliance,” continuing to attract strong support from policymakers, law enforcement, and road‑safety advocates. Your commitment to delivering meaningful change continues!
